Carbon buildup in EGR Valves and the Intake Manifold could be choking your engine just like cholesterol does to the human heart. In worst case scenarios this buildup could eventually damage the seals and end up requiring your engine be replaced.

This can happen to both petrol and diesel engines but turbo and diesel engines tend to be more susceptible to the problem, especially where a PCV system is used. City drivers in particular should be aware that EGR systems tend to operate at the lower speeds many city drivers are faced with every day (below 60km/h). This means the carbon buildup is often increased for city drivers and those doing short runs around town.
